Karla, age 5, recently took part in a free vision screening offered by Prevent Blindness NC. Her preschool participates in the PBNC Preschool Vision Screening Program each year to help ensure good visual health for their children. When Karla’s results indicated a possible problem, PBNC recommended that she be examined by an eye doctor for diagnosis and treatment. Her doctor confirmed that her vision was impaired and prescribed glasses to help Karla see the world more clearly.
Karla’s mom was very thankful for the screening program as her teachers shared that Karla now seemed happier and wanted to participate in more class activities. “Karla loves her new glasses and thinks she looks beautiful in them,” shared Karla’s mom. Young children depend on their sight to learn many life skills, and Karla’s story is another example of how the PBNC vision screenings can be a vital service for our NC preschoolers.
