Meet Everleigh: A Preschool Success Story

The Preschool Vision Screening Team serves thousands of preschoolers across NC each year. The goal of this program is to detect visual impairments at a young age, when treatment is most effective. Poor vision can significantly hinder a child’s learning, development, and ability to fully participate in play and daily activities.

Parents often express their appreciation for our program when a vision issue is identified that had previously gone unnoticed. Many share stories about how the screening brought attention to a problem no one was aware of and the positive changes that followed once their child received glasses or other treatment. One child, Everleigh, participated in a free screening at her preschool. The screening identified a possible concern, and she was later diagnosed with farsightedness and astigmatism by her eye doctor. Her mother shared the following feedback through our Success Story Program

“I had no clue that she was struggling to see, despite her vision being so impaired. Everything she was doing was “normal” for her.

I have noticed since her getting her glasses things that are so small, like watching TV is so new to her. Things she has “seen” a million times she’s in awe of those things now because she’s actually seeing them.

My daughter is so excited to wear her glasses! At only two years old we have made this so positive for her that she actually gets mad if we forget to put them on her. Thank you so much for your program!”
