New Safety Measures and More Options for Preschool Screenings

This has been a much different screening year for our Preschool Program due to the effects of COVID-19. In preparation for the 2020-2021 screening year, the team worked hard to adapt the screening process and implement safety measures to help meet all state, local and child care center COVID-19 requirements. We are happy to report that the new implementations have been very successful for the centers that have allowed us to come in to conduct the on-site screenings. The Preschool team has also continued to brainstorm new opportunities to serve NC preschoolers while entry into schools is so limited. We are working on many ideas for serving new audiences and continuing our goal to find undetected vision problems early.

  • We are holding free individual screenings at our PBNC office in Raleigh. Parents/guardians can sign up for a safe, quick appointment for their preschooler.
  • We are sending educational books and materials to preschools to be used as part of their curriculum and to share with their parents. We want them to continue focusing on healthy vision for their children and to be aware of signs and symptoms of possible visual impairments.
  • We are also offering a vision screening model utilizing a preschool bus or van as an alternative to holding the screening inside. If your center has access to a bus or van and would be interested in holding a free vision screening for your preschoolers, please contact us for more information.

If your center or preschool is interested in learning more about any of these opportunities, please contact PBNC at 919-755-5044 x 105 or email Marcia at [email protected].
