RALEIGH, NC – Prevent Blindness North Carolina cordially invites you to visit our booth at the 2025 North Carolina State Fair between October 16th and October 26th to participate in a Free Vision Screening, learn from experts about the importance of vision and eye health, or collaborate to create interactive and educational content for your own audience. Our booth is a double booth (#30 and #31) in the Education Building parallel to Hillsborough Street.

As a member of our local media, we are giving you first access to interactive content creation at our booth. Our vision screenings can be discussed on radio, in video for TV and social media and we can give you written information for any published articles. This is a great opportunity to help raise awareness for such an important topic but also to create engaging content with your audience that positively benefits their health.

“During this year’s NC State Fair, we not only want to provide the same no-cost, life-changing vision screenings that Prevent Blindness NC has offered for many years, but we also want to engage fairgoers with a more interactive experience that not only provides access to important vision services and resources, but also educates and entertains throughout the visit,”

– Edwin Jeffords, President & CEO of Prevent Blindness North Carolina.

“We want to make sure that anyone coming to the fair knows they can come to our booth, have some fun and learn at the same time. As a nod to the wonderful environment of the NC State Fair, we’ll have handouts and raffles throughout the eleven-day event. Everyone who visits us will leave us knowing more about their own vision and eye health than they did before. The best part is there is no cost to the fairgoers,”

– Wendy Aves, Community Vision Program Director, Prevent Blindness North Carolina.

Did you know that on average:

    • 10% of NC preschool children have a vision problem,
    • 25% of school-aged children have a vision problem,
    • 60% of Americans over age 40 have a vision problem?

PBNC vision screenings are vital interventions, offered for free, to help identify these issues as early as possible when there is still a chance of repair or many times, even reversal.

During the NC State Fair each year, PBNC focuses on the adult population, and offers these free vision screenings to all adults who are interested. Many of our local media partners have used this as an opportunity to get a vision screening while broadcasting (live or recorded), sharing the importance of vision and eye health, while also engaging listeners/viewers to learn more through Prevent Blindness NC at the booth.

Over the course of 11 days of the 2024 NC State Fair, PBNC screened 1,250 people. This year we have a goal of screening 1,300 people in that same period, and one of them could be you!

Key Activities at the 2025 Prevent Blindness NC State Fair Booth:

    • Free Vision Screenings (both acuity screening and retinal imaging)
    • Visual Health Risk Assessments
    • Educational Information on Specific Eye Conditions
    • Promotional Giveaways and Raffle Entries for Fairgoers
