Prevent Blindness North Carolina Preschool Vision Screener – Moore County and surrounding counties (part-time)
Prevent Blindness North Carolina is seeking an individual to conduct vision screenings in preschools and childcare centers in Moore County, as well as several surrounding counties. Candidate should be willing to travel to other counties weekly. PBNC will provide paid training and safety protocols for screenings. The ideal person is seeking part-time work, primarily during morning hours. The ideal candidate will also enjoy interacting with children.
Responsibilities and Duties:

- The candidate will be screening preschoolers with specialized cameras to detect possible vision problems. The screening process is quick and non-invasive.
- The screenings will occur in all or some of the following counties: Moore, Montgomery, Richmond, Hoke, Scotland, and Anson counties, with occasional travel to other neighboring counties.
- Flexible schedule will range from 2-3 weekday mornings per week.
Qualifications:

- The candidate should possess at least basic computer and internet knowledge as well as basic proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
- The candidate should possess a valid driver’s license and a reliable vehicle to travel to screenings.
- The candidate should be organized and able to manage his/her schedule, appointments, and reporting requirements in a timely manner.

Instructor/Trainer – Western NC (part-time)
The role primarily entails providing vision screening certifications workshops to groups of school staff and volunteers that will conduct mass vision screenings in local schools. PBNC will provide paid training. The ideal person is seeking part time work, has an enthusiasm for teaching, and traveling within North Carolina. A background in nursing, public health, health education, teaching, or training is desirable. If you are looking for an opportunity to connect with adult learners and reach NC children with sight saving services, this is the position for you!
Generally, the trainings occur in-person within schools and/or school system locations generally within a 2-hour drive of the trainer’s home with an occasional overnight training.
Trainers average 4-10 hours per week generally across 2-3 mornings or afternoons and will not exceed more than 20 hours per week on average.
Responsibilities and Duties:

- Deliver content of PBNC’s vision screening certification workshop to adult audiences such as school nurses, school personnel, Health Occupation Students, nursing students, and parent or community volunteers.
- Assess, grade, and report to PBNC on the status of each trainee in a timely manner.
- Participate in orientation to include observation, co-teaching, and solo teaching with observation before conducting any solo trainings.
- Communicate quickly to their supervisor of any problems or concerns within a training or software.
Qualifications:

- Previous training experience desired. Comfortable speaking in front of groups of up to 30 participants.
- Ability to communicate specific information to a variety of audiences in a professional manner.
- Basic computer and internet knowledge and basic proficiency with Power Point, Email.
- Flexible schedule with approximately 3 days per week availability from August 15 – November 15.
- Willingness to travel up to approximately 2 hours from home base with some early mornings and occasional overnights.
- Strong organization skills with ability to keep track of a lot of training supplies as well as a varied schedule.
- Valid driver’s license and a reliable vehicle to travel to different training locations when scheduled for in-person events.
- Access to a reliable computer with private internet access (no public wi-fi).
- Ability to lift 15 pounds or more while performing the duties of this role.

Prevent Blindness North Carolina Adult Retinal Screener Charlotte, NC or Greenville, NC areas (part-time)
The role primarily entails providing vision screenings in community health clinics and free clinics across NC. PBNC will provide paid training. The ideal person is seeking part time work, enjoys interacting with people and traveling within North Carolina. If you are looking for the opportunity to provide NC residents with sight saving services this is the position for you! The employee will be screening patients with appointments specifically for an eye screening or for annual wellness checkups.
Responsibilities and Duties:

- The screenings occur across the state, though most for this position will average about a ninety-minute radius from the Charlotte, NC or a ninety-minute radius of Greenville, NC. This opportunity listing is for either market, but only one. (The same applicant cannot work both regions successfully)
- Retinal screeners at PBNC average around 12 -14 hours / week. That number may increase throughout the year some, but will not exceed more than 20 hours / week on average.
- Because this is a part-time position, PBNC will work with the screeners’ schedules as much as possible, but ultimately, the scheduling of the patient centers will be a priority.
- Paid time begins from the time the screener leaves home and ends the time the screener returns home, plus any time spent uploading / creating spreadsheets and reports. (Occasional overnight stays are calculated differently)
- Each day the screener is scheduled for a screening, the screener will be paid for at least 2 hours or the actual time worked – whichever is more. This 2-hour guarantee may change from year to year.
- PBNC reimburses screeners for mileage driven to and from appointments.
- Occasional overnights are needed, and hotel stays are reimbursed by PBNC up to the current PBNC allowed rate.
- The screener will generally be screening patients with appointments specifically for an eye screening or for annual wellness checkups.
